Are CPR and BLS the Same?

No, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and BLS (Basic Life Support) are related but not identical. CPR focuses specifically on chest compressions and rescue breaths to keep blood and oxygen flowing during cardiac arrest. BLS, however, is more comprehensive—it covers CPR as well as additional lifesaving skills like using an AED and responding to choking. Earning a BLS certification typically means you’re trained in CPR plus these other critical interventions.
